El presidente cubano, Raúl Castro, pidió este martes respeto por la
soberanía nacional del país para poder seguir avanzando en el
restablecimiento pleno de las relaciones diplomáticas con Estados
Unidos.
"Jamás aceptaremos condicionamientos que laceren la soberanía
y dignidad de la patria", destacó Castro ante los diputados durante la
sesión de clausura de la Asamblea Nacional.
El presidente cubano
aseguró que en la nueva situación bilateral con Estados Unidos "no debe
pretenderse que Cuba abandone la causa de la independencia o renuncie a
los principios e ideales por los que varias generaciones de cubanos han
luchado durante un siglo y medio".
Al clausurar la reunión
plenaria del Parlamento cubano, Castro señaló que para normalizar
plenamente las relaciones con Estados Unidos debe ser devuelta la Base
Naval de Guantánamo y eliminado el embargo que se aplica contra la isla,
reseñó la prensa oficial.
"Lo esencial ahora es que el
presidente Barack Obama utilice con determinación sus amplias facultades
ejecutivas para modificar la aplicación del bloqueo, lo cual dará
sentido a lo alcanzado y permitirá que se produzcan sólidos progresos",
aseguró Raúl Castro ante los diputados.
Castro reiteró el
compromiso de las autoridades de la isla con "el derecho a viajar y a
emigrar de los ciudadanos cubanos y de retornar al país".
Desde
el mes pasado, miles de cubanos se encuentran varados en la frontera de
Costa Rica y Nicaragua con la intención de viajar a Estados Unidos. El
gobierno de El Salvador aceptó crear un puente aéreo para que después
los migrantes continúen ruta terrestre hacia la frontera estadunidense.
"Nuestro
gobierno ha estado en contacto desde el mismo inicio de esta situación
con los gobiernos del área, en la búsqueda de una solución adecuada y
rápida, como también ha pedido el papa Francisco, tomando en cuenta las
difíciles circunstancias en las que éstos se encuentran", afirmó Castro,
según la agencia Prensa Latina.

sovereignty in order to further advance the full restoration of
diplomatic relations with the United States.
"Never accept conditionalities for lacerating the sovereignty and dignity of the country," said Castro told lawmakers during the closing session of the National Assembly.
The Cuban president said that the new bilateral situation with the United States "should not be expected to abandon the cause of Cuba's independence or give up the principles and ideals that generations of Cubans have fought for a century and a half."
In closing the plenary session of the Cuban Parliament, Castro said that to fully normalize relations with the United States to be returned the Guantanamo Naval Base and removed the embargo applied against Cuba, reported the official press.
"What is essential now is that President Barack Obama use to determine their broad executive powers to modify the embargo, which give meaning to what has been achieved and allow solid progress to occur," said Raul Castro told lawmakers.
Castro reiterated the commitment of the authorities of the island with "the right to travel and emigration of Cuban citizens and return home".
Since last month, thousands of Cubans are stranded at the border of Costa Rica and Nicaragua with the intention to travel to the United States. The government of El Salvador agreed to establish an air bridge for migrants continue after land route to the US border.
